Traverse Bay Cherry Wine
by admin on Jan.17, 2008, under cherry wine, fruit wine, wine
Background: From Traverse City, Michigan; a sweet fruit wine made from tart Michigan cherries.
Presentation: Clear glass bottle, synthetic cork. Pours a deep red. 11% ABV
Nose: Cherry, funk, and alcohol.
Taste: Sweet cherry, somewhat cloying, some earthy funk, and a bit of tartness in the finish. Hot alcohol.
Overall: Not great. The earthy notes were interesting, but they were the wine's only redeeming quality.
Good Harbor Cherry Wine
by admin on Apr.25, 2007, under cherry wine, fruit wine, wine
Background: Another Michigan vineyard in the Leelanau peninsula. Their cherry wine is made from three different types of cherry, and backsweetened with additional cherry juice prior to bottling.
Presentation: 750ml clear glass bottle. Pours a clear burgundy. 10.5% ABV, semi-sweet
Nose: Cherry blossoms.
Taste: Cherry pie. The sweetness is nicely offset by the acidity of the tart cherries. Well-balanced, very clean taste without a lot of depth. Short finish.
Overall: Not spectacular but still a serviceable wine.
