Lurgashall Special Reserve Mead 2005
by admin on Nov.05, 2007, under mead, wine
Background: Another mead from Lurgashall, this one is aged for six months in barrels that previously held rum and whisky (type not specified, but I'm guessing bourbon).
Presentation: Clear glass bottle, label has a knotwork border around pastel pastoral scenes. With drunken friars. Pours a pale clear gold. 16.5% ABV.
Nose: Rich floral honey and caramel, oaky vanilla, and a hint of alcohol.
Taste: Fruity, slightly sweet honey taste, mild oak influence with some rum notes peeking through. Medium, slightly astringent finish.
Overall: Fairly nice mead. Straightforward, but it makes decent use of the oak aging. I'd've liked to see a dry version of this.
